The Leopards of Sabi Sand

Recent Sightings from Leopard Hills

The leopards of Sabi Sand Game Reserve never fail to captivate, offering some of the most sought-after wildlife experiences in Africa. Recently, Leopard Hills has been buzzing with incredible sightings, each more breathtaking than the last. From playful cubs to iconic adult leopards, our guests and guides have had the privilege of witnessing unforgettable moments in the wild. Here’s a glimpse of these encounters, beautifully captured on Instagram.

A Surprise Visit from Ravenscourt

One of the reserve’s most legendary leopards, Ravenscourt, graced us with a surprise visit while our guests were out on a game drive. Strolling casually through camp, this unexpected appearance reminded us that this is truly his backyard. Sightings like these are a testament to the seamless connection between the wildlife and the luxury lodges of Sabi Sands. (📸: @rangerstu24)

The Little Things

It’s often the small details that capture the essence of these majestic creatures. Take, for example, Basile’s tiny toe beans—adorable, yet a reminder of the incredible power and agility of these big cats. Sometimes, it’s worth pausing to appreciate the finer details of these animals, which make every sighting that much more special. (📸: @justbushveld_photography)

Rivala’s Patience

Rivala, a young female leopard, recently treated us to an amazing sighting. She waited patiently as a herd of elephants passed by, giving us a rare look into the quieter, more calculated side of leopard behaviour. Rivala’s emergence in the western part of the Sabi Sands is certainly something to watch. (📸: @michaels_wildlife)

The Ravenscourt Male: A True Icon

Perhaps one of the most famous leopards in the world, the Ravenscourt male never ceases to amaze. Whether lounging beneath a tree or perched atop a marula with the full moon behind him, every encounter with this majestic cat is nothing short of spectacular. It’s easy to see why he’s regarded as an icon of the Sabi Sand, and sightings of him continue to be awe-inspiring. (📸: @smthphotos)

Thamba and Tisela’s Cubs

Leopard families provide some of the most heartwarming moments on safari, and recently, Thamba was spotted not too far from Tisela and her cubs. Though calm, it was an exciting sighting, offering us a look into the intimate life of these fascinating cats. As the cubs grow, we can’t wait to see what’s next for this beautiful family. Sabi Sand Leopard Safaris

A Sabi Sand Leopard Safari is one of the most rewarding wildlife experiences in South Africa. The Sabi Sand Game Reserve, bordering the famous Kruger National Park, is renowned for its high concentration of leopards. Here, guests have the chance to observe these elusive creatures up close, as leopards in this region are more habituated to vehicles, providing photographers and wildlife enthusiasts with exceptional sightings.

It’s not uncommon to see leopards perched in trees, on rocky outcrops, or interacting with other wildlife such as hyenas or lions. For many, a safari in Sabi Sand offers the ultimate opportunity to witness these elegant predators in action, often multiple times during a single stay.

Luxury lodges like Leopard Hills, along with other high-end options such as Singita and Dulini, offer guests tailored safari experiences that focus on maximising leopard sightings. With the help of expert guides and trackers, these safaris guarantee intimate and unforgettable moments with leopards and the other magnificent creatures of Sabi Sand.
